We acquired the works of Rafael Vigil, the man behind Miami’s rise in Latin music

We recently acquired the works of the late writer and producer Rafael Vigil, an influential figure in Miami’s Latin music scene throughout the 80’s and 90’s, playing a transformative role in the careers of bands such as The Jerks and Miami Sound Machine led by Gloria Estefan.

Rafael Vigil’s most notable success came from his participation in Miami Sound Machine’s 1985 album “Primitive Love,” propelling their notable track “Bad Boy” into a Top 10 Billboard single and Top 20 UK Single.

The popular song was later sampled in works such as “Feel So Good” by Mase and “2 Step” by 2 Chainz. As the lead single, the hip-hop anthem helped launch Mase’s 1997 debut album “Harlem World” to Multi-Platinum status.

Vigil was later Grammy-nominated for “Producer of the Year” for his involvement in Miami Sound Machine’s 1987 Platinum album “Let It Loose,” while songs such as “Betcha Say That” played a pivotal role in furthering Gloria Estefan’s status as a Latin crossover icon.
