Kathy Sommer

Kathy Sommer possesses a unique combination of talents. She is as comfortable in the worlds of pop, rock and R&B music, where she works as an acclaimed songwriter and producer, as she is in musical theater, wielding a baton as one of Broadway’s top female conductors. Her credits range from co-writing the multi-platinum selling song “Crashed”, on the Grammy nominated Daughtry album (Billboard #1 top selling record of 2007 & 2008), to conducting the Broadway shows Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast”, “City of Angels”, and “Romance/Romance”. She also recently conducted several songs on Jewel’s new Christmas album, entitled “Let it Snow”, as well as put the Grammy winning Atlantic recording artist Halestorm on the map with her co-penned hit single “I Get Off”–one of the top 10 Billboard Rock singles of 2010. That was recently followed by songs on rock legend Shinedown’s “Amaryllis” which debuted at #4 of the Billboard Top 200, and just went gold, and Halestorm’s second release, “The Strange Case of…” debuting at #15.
Other recent songwriting collaborators include Train, Courage My Love, Jason Castro, Skillet, We As Human, Amy Meredith, Better than Ezra and the Latin Grammy Award winning duo, Jesse and Joy.

Her songs have also been heard on the following projects by an array of artists: Theory of a Deadman and Emphatic (Atlantic), SONY artist Fans (winners of Argentinian Idol–Spanish and English version of Chicas co-writer/co-producer), Chemistry (Sony Japan), Idol winner Gretchen Espina (Sony Phillipines), The American Mall (MTV) including the top selling video game Rock Band (as producer and writer), Lizzy McGuire Soundtrack (Hillary Duff), Mattel’s Barbie Diaries (Skye Sweetnum), BRATZ DVD’s, Darcy Goes Wild (Kristy Frank), Christian Bautista, Side A, Nell Carter, Sesame Street’s ELMO, The David Letterman Show, Superbowl 2007, SEC/ACC College Football/ESPN, Lego’s Bionicles/Nickelodeon, HBO’s Cathouse, Summerland, The Secret Life Of The American Teenager, Joan of Arcadia, Disney’s Cadet Kelly, Felicity, The Young & The Restless, and One Life To Live, as well as two songs in the Columbia Pictures International film, “It’s the Music”. Her song, “The Road Not Taken” was also featured in the finale of Emmy Nominated PBS Special, “Beyond Celtic”, featuring Riverdance artist Michael Londra.

She is a graduate of Yale University, a member of ASCAP and The Songwriters Guild, and serves on the NY Chapter Board of Governors of The Recording Academy.
