Dead Prez

Dead Prez is a politically charged hip-hop duo formed in the early 1990s, consisting of stic.man and M-1. Originally connecting in Florida before relocating to New York City, the pair became known for their revolutionary message, blending militant social commentary with hard-hitting, minimalist production. Their music draws heavily from Black liberation movements, addressing systemic oppression, economic inequality, and self-determination.

They broke into the mainstream with their debut album Let’s Get Free, a landmark release in conscious hip-hop that featured the widely recognized track Hip Hop. The album’s raw energy and uncompromising political stance helped establish Dead Prez as one of the most influential voices in activist rap, earning critical acclaim and a lasting place in hip-hop history.

Throughout their career, Dead Prez has remained committed to using music as a tool for education and empowerment. With projects like RBG: Revolutionary But Gangsta and ongoing solo work, they continue to challenge mainstream narratives while advocating for community organizing, health awareness, and grassroots activism—solidifying their legacy as pioneers of socially conscious hip-hop.
