BCore Disc

BCore Disc is the main independent Spanish label focused on hardcore-punk DIY culture. Active since 1990, in their earliest period they released almost every Spanish hardcore band, and through the years have opened up their style range to all indie rock, from Les Philippes’ pop to Coconot’s post-rock, passing through Tokyo Sex Destruction’s garage, Madee’s emo, Standstill’s Avant-vanguard post-hardcore, The Unfinished Sympathy’s melodic rock or Delorean’s electronics. They are now considered one of the most influential Spanish independent labels.

The history of BCore Disc starts in 1990 when they released their first record, “No Problem” by the Barcelona based band Corn Flakes. At first there was no intention of starting a label; just interest in giving an opportunity to something that was unknown at the time. Previously, they had been distributing demos, records and t-shirtst, and there was a small audience interested in what was happening in the underground Barcelona scene. The following releases were just a natural consequence of the first, recovering the investment for the first record and re-investing it in the second, and so on. That’s when they realized that BCore was a bit more than a simple hobby. It became a small label with a very specific style and fan base. Mouth to mouth was the only form of communication at that time; no PR, no advertisements. It was one of the few labels working in Barcelona; they would set up their own shows, publish their own releases, do their own design and distribute through small mail orders.

BCore has always focused on having total control on what happens their bands, taking care of them and maintaining a very close and friendly relationship, like a big family, as some might say. Posters, sleeves, t-shirt designs, mail order, booking… all done in odd DIY style and strongly supported by some of the media that was always on their side: “Reptil Zine ” and “Atac de Core” at the clandestine Radio Pica.

Nowadays the label has grown in size, but not in attitude. With time, they’ve learned a bit about how the musical business works, and feel proud to keep on working in a totally independent way, organizing their own tours in our new Management Department, choosing the bands they want to work with freely and taking care of sleeves, recordings, posters and t-shirts. All this has created a small but strong independent scene in Spain and has helped them to become more well-known in Europe and around the world.

BCore was the first Spanish independent label to have its whole catalogue uploaded on the internet and bought to worldwide music download stores: iTunes Music Store, Napster, MSN.com and other several download sites. That includes every single album released by BCore in its 25 years, including the entire current catalogue and also all the out-of-press releases (Corn Flakes, Fromheadtotoe, Xmilk, All ill, etc.). There is also the possibility of downloading songs that had never been digitalized before, like all vinyl LP’s, singles and Demo Tapes. This way, people worldwide, will have the chance to have quick and cheap access to any song ever released by BCore, something that had never happened before in a Spanish indie labels’ history.
