The Times Group boasts of producing the world's largest English daily broadsheet - The Times of India, the world's second largest financial daily - The Economic Times and top film and women's magazines - Filmfare and Femina.

In the late 90s, after about a decade of liberalization, the media environment in the country began changing. The distinct difference between the media and the entertainment industry, prevalent till then, started to blur. With an established numero uno tag in publishing, The Times Group felt the need to diversify into other associated sectors. The organization set out on its path to metamorphose into an integrated media and entertainment firm.

The intent of the music label was to create albums tailored to appeal to the discerning audience. Times Music pioneered the concepts of spiritual, world and remix music in India and established itself as the No. 1 music label in the spiritual music genre. Some of the biggest names in the music scene rendered their voices to produce some of the best known albums for Times Music - The Golden Raaga Collection, Gayatri, Himalayan Chants and Hanuman Chalisa.

With the advent of digital music, the music industry once again started experiencing a boom. However, the revival was primarily led by commercial film music and therefore the group decided to launch its independent Hindi and regional film music label, Junglee Music.

Junglee Music took off in the year 2007 with the biggest commercial blockbuster of the year, WELCOME starring Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor, Mallika Sherawat, Paresh Rawal and Nana Patekar. The music of WELCOME has been composed by some of the biggest music directors of India - Himesh Reshammiya, Sajid-Wajid & Anand Raj Anand and has managed to climb to the top of the charts in no time. It was followed up in 2008 with an even bigger Blockbuster, the Akshay Kumar & Katrina Kaif starrer, Singh Is Kinng.

Keeping up with the ever changing music industry, Times Music has now positioned itself as a comprehensive rights management company that specialises in managing and monetising content in all forms on a global level. [ less ]
