May 1, 2004 Leading Hip Hop act, Dilated Peoples, have signed a Worldwide Administration deal with The Royalty Network, Inc. Dilated Peoples is made up of the core trio of Chris Oroc (Babu), Michael Peretta (Evidence) and Rakaa Taylor (Rakaa). Dilated is currently on the Billboard charts with their latest album ‘Neighborhood Watch’. Since their beginnings as pioneers of Los Angeles' progressive underground rap scene, Dilated Peoples have been celebrated as one of hip-hop's most provocative and imaginative collectives. Tracks such as the thought-provoking "Big Business" and the soulfully energetic single "This Way" offer amble proof of the power of rap in its purest form - two skilled MCs and an extraordinarily inventive DJ. The group's hometown roots are immortalized on Neighborhood Watch with the booming "World On Wheels" (inspired by the famed Mid City roller disco) and "1580," a skit which conjures up golden memories of legendary Los Angeles AM station 1580 KDAY, the world's first ever round-the-clock hip-hop station. That back-to the-future spirit has defined Dilated Peoples' work from Day One, beginning with their early independent releases through 2000's Capitol debut, The Platform. The current album features cutting edge production by Kanye West, Alchemist, Evidence, and Babu. In addition, each member also keeps busy on outside projects, with Babu releasing several compilation albums, and Evidence’s vast work with artist’s such as Kanye West, Defari, and Everlast. We look forward to a long working relationship with Dilated Peoples, Their songs are published through their respective catalogs of Dilated Junky Music (Babu) (Ascap), Double Vinyl Music (Evidence) (BMI), and Triclops Media Publishing (Rakaa) (BMI).
Cassandra Reed (www.cassandrareed.com) has signed an Administration deal with The Royalty Network. Reed’s sultry new twelve-song contemporary collection combines a staggering mix of atmospheric grooves with her expressive vocal delivery, which amounts to one incredible listen. A devotee of everything from Stevie Wonder to the Clash to John Coltrane to Sly and the Family Stone to traditional Turkish, Morrocan, and West Indian Music, Cassandra set about melding her disparate influences into a sound all her own. True to her Gypsy roots (born in Seville, Spain), Cassandra soon after decided to leave it all behind and make a move to New York City. Shortly after landing stateside, Cassandra inked a deal with Peak Records. Her self titled album, is a sultry twelve-song collection that combines old school jazz, Aretha Franklin-inspired soul, and contemporary R&B with provocative lyrics and Billie Holiday-worthy vocal performances. Cassandra’s currently hard at work crafting new hit songs for a forthcoming album. Her songs are administered through her K N LO Music (BMI) catalog. SidoAmerica Music (Ascap) (www.sidomusic.com) has signed an Administration deal with the Network, covering the territory of North America. Sido Music offers the leading music from France’s most widely known Films, including the works by well known composers such as George Delerue, Michel Magne, Antoine Duhamel, Philippe Sarde, and Michel Legrand. Their material has also been sampled by leading Hip Hop acts Lil Bow Wow and Snoop Dogg. We look forward to the opportunity to further exploit Sido America’s works. Amy Fairchild (So Fair Music - BMI) has signed a deal with The Royalty Network. Amy (www.amyfairchild.com) is an established singer songwriter. With the release of her CD Mr. Heart in 2002, Amy Fairchild has come into her own. According to Steve Morse of the Boston Globe, Fairchild is on the verge of big things. Not many people make records this good. ‘Renee’ (from Mr. Heart) won the Grand Prize in the coveted Pop Category of the 2003 John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Last year, her song ‘Falling Down’, also from Mr. Heart, not only won the Pop Category in the same contest but also went on to win the overall Maxell Song of the Year ($20 K prize). ‘Tuesday’ a song about Sept 11th won Grand Prize in the Billboard Songwriting Competition in the Country/Folk Category. Song placements include ‘Humble Pie’, which was used in an episode of Dawson’s Creek and ‘Beautiful Secret’, placed in the national touring company production of Spiderman Live in addition to being heard recently on Joan of Arcadia (CBS). She was also nominated for two Boston Music Awards in 2003; Best Female Vocalist and Best Female Singer/Songwriter. A live cd, 'Amy Fairchild Live' was released on February 9th, 2004. Amy is a class addition to our catalog and we’re certain to hear plenty more from this gifted songwriter / artist. Gifted producer / songwriter, Jason Miles (Miles Day Publishing – BMI), has signed a Worldwide Administration deal with The Royalty Network, Inc. Jason’s credits are numerous and far reaching. By applying his innovative synth programming techniques, Miles got his feet planted firmly in the fusion world, a style that would rule the 1970s. A longtime advocate of electronic music, Miles has been a well-respected figure on the New York studio scene since the '80s as a first-call keyboard programmer and player for A-list artists such as Miles Davis, Luther Vandross, Marcus Miller, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, David Sanborn, and Michael Jackson. The 1990s proved to be a major turning point in Miles' career as a synthesist. Back-to-back projects for such top-name artists as longtime collaborator Michael Brecker's Now You See It...Now You Don't in 1990, Whitney Houston's I'm Your Baby Tonight also in 1990, Vandross'The Power of Love in 1991, and Michael Jackson's HIStory in 1995, among many others, provided the perfect way for his pop and jazz musical accomplishments to be made known to a wider audience. In 1997, he and his wife, Kathy Byalick, released Visionary Path, a new age recording with narration by such artists as the then-unknown Diana Krall and award-winning vocalists Roberta Flack and Nona Hendryx, and actor F. Murray Abraham. Miles believes that the key to his success as a producer is his ability to consistently deliver the goods. That integrity and respect level is apparent on his 2002 release for Q Records, Brazilian Nights Featuring Romero Lubambo. Once again, Miles pulls the crème de la crème of the music world together to perform some of Brazil's greatest songs.
