January 2006 We are excited to announce the signing of the band VHS or Beta. Consisting of members Zeke Buck, Mark Guidry, Mark Palgy, and Craig Pfunder, the band released their EP “Le Funk” in 2002 to critical acclaim. Fusing elements of rock music and dance music with a healthy dose of funk, VHS or Beta created a unique sound that brings crowds to the dance floor while also appealing to fans of indie rock. As word of the band spread, VHS or Beta signed to Astralwerks Records and in 2004 released the full-length album “Night on Fire.” The album finds the band continuing to progress from their early rock roots towards a more even distribution of rock and dance elements. The band’s tightly constructed songs help set them apart from the mass of dance-rock acts that have reached the mainstream in recent years. Keep your ears open for new sounds from the ever-evolving VHS or Beta in the near future. We administer the band’s publishing catalog, Nasty Skrumps (ASCAP). We are pleased to announce that Lil’ Mo (Cynthia Loving) has signed a worldwide publishing agreement with The Royalty Network. This diminutive artist and songwriter worked her way up through the ranks before signing a contract with Elektra to release her first album, “Based On A True Story,” in 2001. The album was a success, and led to collaborations with artists including Missy Elliot, Jay-Z, ODB, Lil’ Bow Wow, and Ja Rule. Her next album, “Meet The Girl Next Door,” appeared in 2003. Once again, the album was a success, as it included the hit single “4Ever” feat Fabolous. Mo continues to write songs as she prepares to release a new album. We administer her Mo Loving Music (ASCAP) catalog. Abdel Wright recently signed a publishing administration agreement with The Royalty Network. Wright, called “the most important Jamaican artist since Bob Marley” by Bono, was orphaned at a young age in Jamaica. He eventually landed in an orphanage funded by Johnny Cash, who influenced Wright’s decision to pursue music. Though his songwriting ability flourished and he learned to play several instruments, Wright was forced to turn to crime to make money, and was eventually incarcerated on a gun charge. He used his time in prison to hone his craft and was offered a record contract by Interscope after his release. His debut, “Abdel Wright,” was released in summer 2005. The album boasts intelligent lyrics, concise songwriting, and songs that incorporate elements of pop, rock, and country while still retaining a Jamaican element. We administer Wright’s songs via his Badel Music Publishing (ASCAP) catalog. We recently signed an administration agreement with Kazuhiko Asonuma. Kaz is a reggae producer who has worked with legendary producers Sly & Robbie and their label, Taxi Records. We are pleased to welcome Kaz and his KM Jampub (ASCAP) catalog. Hip-hop producer Aaron Butts a/k/a Arrowstar has signed a publishing agreement with The Royalty Network. A rising talent, Arrowstar is a member of Kanye West’s production team, in conjunction with his G.O.O.D. label. His works are published via his Odds and Even Music (BMI) catalog. We are pleased to announce our signing of young singer/songwriter Elizabeth Nicole. An ex-ballerina and child actor, Elizabeth has appeared on TV shows including the WB’s “7th Heaven” and ABC’s “Port Charles.” Music has always been her passion, however; she has been playing since age 8 and writing songs since age 14. She has a formidable collection of songs written, and she continues working with some of the biggest names in music. Her songs are published via her Devil Child Music (BMI) catalog. Reggae artist Al Pancho (Owen Brown) has signed a worldwide publishing agreement with The Royalty Network. A music lover from a young age, Al Pancho began his career by performing alongside some of reggae’s biggest artists. He has since released his own album, featuring appearances from Luciano, Lutan Fyah, Bounty Killer, and Junior Kelly (among others). Donte Fleming recently signed a publishing agreement with The Royalty Network. Donte has appeared on and co-written songs by Talib Kweli and DJ Hi-Tek, among others. Donte’s works are published via his Wish Masta Publishing (ASCAP) catalog. EZ Elpee (Lamont Porter) has extended his administration agreement for an additional three years. EZ Elpee remains one of the most talented hip-hop producers in the game, having crafted hit songs for the likes of Junior M.A.F.I.A., Capone-N-Noreaga, Raekwon, Shyne, Big Pun, and more. We are glad to continue working with him and his EZ Elpee Music (BMI) catalog. Songwriter Damian Fontana has signed an administration deal covering his ZeroHero Songs (BMI) catalog. Damian got his start at the top – writing a song with Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds. We look forward to working with Damian. We are pleased to announce that Rick Rude (Ricky Lewis) has extended his agreement with us to cover his complete song catalog. Rick recently scored a massive hit with his production of the Grammy nominated Destiny’s Child song “Cater 2 You.” We administer his Rick Rude Publishing (BMI) catalog. Hip-hop producer Chris Rogers recently signed a publishing agreement covering his Delostart Publishing (ASCAP) catalog. Rogers co-wrote and produced two songs on the latest Cee-Lo album, as well as penning songs for the movie “You Got Served.” We look forward to big things from Rogers in the future. We are pleased to welcome Sean Hall and his Gimme Some Hot Sauce Music (ASCAP) catalog to the Network. Sean is an established producer who has written songs for 3LW, Pink, 98 Degrees, Christina Milian, and many others. We will administer Sean’s catalog via our agreement with Phat Groov Music (ASCAP). We recently entered into a collection agreement with Pamela Olivia-Reynolds. Pam was a member of the R&B group Vybe and co-wrote much of their material. Her works are published via her Pozitively Pro Productions (BMI) catalog. We are pleased to announce that we have signed a publishing agreement with Saregama Music United States (BMI). Saregama is an Indian company that has strong roots in the film music arena. In addition to their film scores, Saregama’s works have been sampled by the likes of Black Eyed Peas, Jem, Method Man, and Lil’ Kim. We look forward to working with this catalog in the US market. Clarence Ray Blaylock and Solomon “Soli” Ridge have signed administration agreements with The Royalty Network. Blaylock and Ridge have written songs for Jamie Foxx, Ne-Yo, and Mario. We look forward to a successful future with these prolific songwriters. Blaylock’s catalog is Ray Blaylock Music Publishing (BMI), while Ridge’s songs are published by Solomon Ridge Music Publishing (BMI). |
