 | Wesley Hogges
Demand for Wesley Hogges and his street-charmed, love ballads spun into high gear within the past few years, but his career began at the age of thirteen with the dream of landing a record deal as a rap artist. A proactive teenager, Wesley began crafting rhymes in his mother's basement in Passaic, NJ. Submitting his creations to record labels quickly familiarized Wes with the labyrinth of business procedures and more importantly, provided him with clandestine but permissible ways of cutting through red tape. |
It was a meeting with Darren Lighty (Next, Ruff Endz) in1993 and soon thereafter an opportunity for longtime collaborator, Eric Williams, to join Blackstreet that catapulted Wes into a pool of prominence. Relocating his life to Virginia in pursuit of greater exposure, Wes landed a producer deal under Teddy Riley's, Little Man Records. Subsequent song placement on Blackstreet's Another Level (Interscope) and Finally (Interscope), and later on Dave Hollister's Dreamworks release Ghetto Hymns, spun Wesley's career into an upward spiral. |
After a phased out relationship with Riley, years of industry experience and a plethora of skill and story, Wes saw no other way than independence to cement his presence as a prolific songwriter in the entertainment world. His debonair lyricism, an identical personality to match, paired with perseverance and a musical super vision had major label A&R's searching for the silent innovator behind the suppleness of Donell Jones, Guy and Exhale. |
A firm relationship with Divine Mill CEO, Kay Gee and recording artist Jaheim, whom together, thrive on tantamount creative momentum, have conceived the sultry sounds on seven tracks from Jaheim's platinum album Ghetto Love, including the first single "Could It Be." Jaheim's sophomore effort will feature three tracks co-written by Wesley, Eric Williams, Jahad and Jaheim himself, all seeping with their distinct, passionate fluidity. More of Wes' sinuous songs can be heard on Rell's forthcoming debut, The Remedy (Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam). |
Determination, talent and a little bit of good luck have all acted as a catalyst for achievement for this unyielding songwriter. Wesley's career is undeniably destined for vast success and longevity. |
