MCJAMES MUSIC

Tim James and Steven McClintock, owners of McJames Music Inc., met in 1977 in Newport Beach, California while playing in local bands. Tim orchestrated Steven his first cut by placing "Until Tonight" with his long time friend Juice Newton for her upcoming Capitol Records LP "TAKE HEART". At that time Island Music owned the copyright to "Until Tonight". Tim thought this was so easy that he and Steven might as well start writing together and form their own publishing company and keep the copyrights for themselves.
Five long years and thousands of song pitches later they had their first cut as McJames Music. A song they'd written for an Anne Murray Christmas album (CHRISTMAS NEEDS LOVE TO BE CHRISTMAS) was recorded instead by Andy Williams and sung that Christmas on Bob Hope’s annual Christmas Show. Since that first cut Tim and Steven have gone on to write over 500 songs and had cuts by such acts as Tiffany, Juice Newton, Six Wire, Pat Boone, Dan Seals, The Nelson Brothers, Heather Small, PC Quest to name a few. They also wrote 5 songs on The Jetson’s Movie Soundtrack. Together with Mark Mancina they scored 18 movies for Action International Pictures in a short two year period.

They have received a BMI Certificate of Achievement for their top 5 single “All This Time”, as well as 4 Gold and 2 Platinum RIAA sales awards and a coveted BMI Million Performance Award for Aaron Tippin’s # 1 song “That’s As Close As I’ll Get To Loving You”. McJames Music contains songs by Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Jr. as well as the complete catalog of the current Universal act Shiny Toy Guns, an act that Tim and Steven had nurtured for years before their signing to Universal Records.
The past year has been a great one for the guys, as their time and effort with Shiny Toy Guns is hitting the mainstream in a big way. The band recently reached #1 on Billboard’s Heetseeker’s Chart, and the album has cracked the Top 100 of Billboard’s main chart. In addition, the acquisition of the Johnny Cash / Hank Williams Jr. classic, “That Old Wheel”, is sure to the see the light of day on numerous compilations and Synchronization placements.

Tim and Steven are still the sole owners of McJames Music Inc. and continue to passionately write and pitch songs as well as actively sign new music from other writers. McJames Music's catalog now contains over 2200 songs of which over 470 have been recorded for commercial release. And the story continues..... |
